The new office is located at 101 Huntington Ave., in the Prudential Center. Shipman, Connecticut's largest law firm with 141 in-state attorneys, will now exceed 160 lawyers overall. Managing Partner Leander Dolphin said the move strengthens the firm's key practice areas and regional presence. Shipman also maintains offices in Greenwich, Lakeville, New Haven, Old Lyme, Stamford and New York City. Shipman & Goodwin Managing Partner Leander Dolphin. Photo | CoStar Report: CT remains insurance leader but faces rising Midwest competition C onnecticut remains a national leader in insurance and financial services, but faces growing competition from lower-cost Midwestern states, according to a new report from The New England Council. The study found that nearly 56,000 Connecticut residents work in insurance — more than in banking and asset management combined — and that the broader financial sector supports about 238,000 jobs, or 13% of statewide employment. The industry generated $37.6 billion in wages and $127.6 billion in total output in 2024. While Connecticut still leads the nation in insurance employment as a share of total jobs (2.2%), its overall share of national insurance activity has slipped as states such as Iowa and Nebraska attract companies with lower costs and favorable regula- tions. By one key measure — insur- ance's contribution to gross domestic product — Connecticut now ranks third behind those two states. Woodbridge-based biotech firm LambdaVision has raised $7 million in seed funding to advance preclin- ical research and scale space-based production of its artificial retina designed to treat blindness. The round was co-led by Seven Seven Six, founded by Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, and the Aurelia Foundry Fund, with participation from Seraphim Space. The funding is expected to sustain operations into 2027. LambdaVision manufactures its protein-based retinal implants aboard the International Space Station, where microgravity enables higher-quality production. The company has completed nine missions with NASA and Space Tango and plans to use the new funding to expand preclinical work ahead of human trials. CEO Nicole Wagner said the investment will help bring the company closer to clinical testing and scalable orbital manufacturing. Founded at UConn, LambdaVi- sion has received more than $15 million in prior grants and employs six people at its 4 Research Drive facility, with plans to add three to five more staff in the coming months.
