What could be more fun than curating beautiful celebrations? It turns out, serving as editor of a wedding magazine is probably just as much fun – and definitely a better fit for my skill set. I'm now years out from the days when there was a wed- ding invitation perpetually stuck to my fridge, and I was ready to leave that busy chapter behind. Yet, it took little effort to find enthusiasm for creating the first issue of We Do!. The joy of a wedding, a ritual celebrated across human cultures for mil- lennia, endures. It wasn't so long ago that my peers and I were getting hitched, but weddings have changed over the last handful of years. There's a sense of individuality that couples have embraced as they make their plans. Couples today know what they want, and more importantly, what they don't, and they have no qualms about saying so. They're prioritizing budgets, thus the rise of the microweddings; they're skipping traditions that don't resonate; they're intentional about the details that matter to them, and they're really into including their pets in the festivities. In many ways, Central Massachusetts is an ideal place for couples to have the wed- dings they want. Anchored by a vibrant Worcester, the variety of venue options means there's something for everyone – whether they're city people looking for a formal ball- room, or prefer mountain vistas or barn receptions. Our Real Weddings section, a collection of stunning celebrations of all kinds, proves the point: Couples can realize their wedding dreams without having to leave Central Massachusetts. I hope these stories of real couples, and other features, inspire readers to consider the wedding venues and talented vendors of Central Massachusetts.
