www.wedoweddingsma.com • Winter 2025 • We Do! 13 What should shoppers spend on an engagement ring? Is the three-months salary rule a thing of the past? That was a rule of thumb back in the day when De Beers used the slogan, "A Diamond is Forever." Today, couples are more col- laborative. It will probably take three months to save up for a large, high-quality diamond, but I think that's a more personal discus- sion between couples than a rule. Do more couples shop together? I'd say it's an even split. I think many couples discuss the idea of getting engaged beforehand now. They'll talk about it, they may go looking together, or share images so they have an idea already. Couples who shop together are on the same page financially and stylistically. Are there any engagement trends that you are not a fan of? Personally, I am not a fan of two different stones offset together. Many people are influenced by celebrities. We have seen an uptick in vintage ring interest since Taylor Swift's engagement to Travis Kelce. I always say, trends are just that; they go out of style. What is your favorite type of engagement ring to sell? I love a classic solitaire with a little accent stone on each side, or maybe a little accent in the band beneath or around it. The halo diamond ring trend has been popular for quite some time, and it is lovely. It seems everyone wants a big rock nowadays. What else should couples consider, as far as quality? I always suggest prioritizing quality first, and size second. Size can be deceiving, but quality is quality. If size is the primary objec- tive, then a lab grown diamond might be a budget-friendly solu- tion. At the end of the day, it is about the couple's wants and captur- ing the sentiment of their relationship, which is why custom-built rings have become more popular. And don't forget about your wedding bands. Many couples are so busy planning, they forget to order their wedding bands. The flowers and cake fade, but you will have those bands forevermore, and they represent your marriage, so have fun with the experience and find a jeweler you can build a relationship with. n This interview was conducted and edited for length and clarity by We Do!
