6 We Do! • Winter 2025 • www.wedoweddingsma.com K RISTEN SEYMOUR AND HER NOW-HUS- BAND THOMAS started dating years ago on December 12, so she always wanted that to be the date of their wedding as well. They held it on December 11, 2021 – close enough. "It's not a hugely popular time to get married, so I thought it would be unique," Seymour said. The couple held the event at the Chocksett Inn in Sterling, which Seymour said was ideal since if there were a blizzard, ev- eryone would be staying on site anyway. "If there was an issue, we could all get snowed in there," she said. In the end, it turned out to be an unseasonably warm 60-de- gree day, but guests still enjoyed the fireplace, holiday lighting, and the chance to celebrate outside of the traditional wedding season. "I just thought it was very romantic," said Seymour, who has since gone on to get a job at the Chocksett Inn. "I would do it again in the winter in a heartbeat." According to the 2025 "Real Weddings Study" by The Knot, only 9 percent of 2024 weddings took place between December and February. Of those that did, December was the most popular month, accounting for a total of 5 percent of all weddings that year. But Tianna Dionne, head of wedding sales at the Chocksett Inn, said Seymour is far from alone. She said most couples who are interested in winter weddings want to hold an all-weekend event for their friends and family. The inn can host the entire thing, with people staying on site, which helps if the weather turns out to be less than ideal. But couples can also plan out- ings, like an afternoon of skiing or enjoying local trails.
