She began in the construction industry over 30 years ago in an administrative role and today manages budgets and schedules for multi-million-dollar projects, while direct- ing her team of subcontractors from all trades. Notable projects include renovations to the historic Me- chanics and Farmers Bank, Sleepy Hollow Country Club, City of Stamford School projects, and hundreds of units of affordable housing. What inspired you to pursue a career in construction, and how did you get started? I quickly realized that construction offered an exciting and rewarding career. Many people became mentors and continue to inspire me. This industry had a reputa- tion of being closed to women, but I found it very ac- cepting and that motivated me to be the best I could be. What skills or strengths do you believe have contributed most to your success in this field? My degree in education taught me process and com- munication – skills that are valuable in construction. I am a tenacious problem solver; I have a strong work eth- ic and am not afraid of doing difficult work. This helped me gain experience and prove myself as I advanced to Sr. Project Manager. What advice would you give to young women considering a career in construction? Construction is a challenging field that demands precision, dedication, and ongoing improvement. You will need to develop skills and ask for challenges. Work for a company that welcomes you and your talents. With experience and determination, you will be respected on jobsites and you will enjoy a truly rewarding career.
