Cianbro was the first ESOP established in Maine. By the early 1960s, we had a policy of sharing profits with our team mem- bers in the form of a Christmas bonus. By the mid-1970s, our founders felt something more formal was needed to allow our team members to have ownership of the company. At the time, ESOPs were uncommon in our industry. We went ahead with the plan in 1979. By 2004, Cianbro was 100% employee owned. Our legacy of employee ownership has strengthened our company's performance and influenced our ability to attract and retain talent.
