PerkinElmer to close Shelton plant, cut 68 jobs PerkinElmer U.S. LLC plans to permanently close its Shelton manu- facturing facility next year, eliminating 68 jobs, according to a notice filed with the state Department of Labor. The company said the plant, at 710 Bridgeport Ave., will shut down in phases, with the first group of affected employees scheduled to lose their jobs Nov. 24. The full closure is expected by April 1, 2026. The company — which develops diagnostic tools, scientific instru- ments and life sciences technologies used by laboratories, researchers and healthcare providers worldwide — didn't specify what's driving the closure. Affected positions include technicians, engineers, material handlers, managers and other manu- facturing and logistics roles. PerkinElmer has had a footprint in Connecticut for decades, with facili- ties in Fairfield and New Haven coun- ties serving as hubs for engineering, research and production. The Shelton site, which opened in the early 2000s, has been one of the company's larger manufacturing centers in the state. NY bank eyes further CT expansion NBT Bank, a $16 billion upstate New York lender expanding in Connecticut, is seeking approval to open a new branch in Torrington. The Norwich, N.Y.-based bank filed an application Sept. 17 with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency to establish a staffed office at 131 South Main St. NBT entered Connecticut in 2020 and significantly expanded in 2023 through its $204 million acquisition of Salisbury Bancorp, adding more than a dozen branches in Litchfield and Hartford counties. It now oper- ates offices in Glastonbury, West Hartford, Canaan, Lakeville, Salisbury and Sharon. The new Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Danbury is located at 50 Reserve Road and spans 50,500 square feet. The Danbury hospital is Alabama-based Encompass Health's 170th nationwide, but first in Connecticut. The company is already seeking to add a second rehab hospital in the state. It has proposed building a $69.5 million, 50-bed rehab facility in Branford.
