C-SUITE | 2025 AWARDS HARTFORDBUSINESS.COM | SEPTEMBER 8, 2025 B13 D oug Magazu is the chief financial offi- cer at Cornell Scott Hill Health Corporation. He is a team player partnering with clinical and operations, whose goal is the delivery of high-quality patient services most efficiently and cost-effectively. He is responsible for CS-HHC's financial operations, including finance, account- ing, tax, treasury, audit, procurement, accounts payable and patient accounts. In addition, he is responsible for third- party payer relationships, contract management and grants management. What have been your biggest professional accomplish- ments over the past year? I led an initiative to create an expense-reduction strategy. e strategy included consolidating our vendor contracts into a group purchasing organization (GPO) arrangement, which enabled us to save over $1.5 million with 10 different vendors for goods and services. A second significant initiative I led was to renegotiate five payer agreements, which added $5.5 million in revenue. In addition, we were able to produce clean financial audits, schedule of expenditures for federal awards (SEFA) audits, cost reports, pension audits and 990 tax returns. While I led these initiatives, none of them would have been accomplished without the diligence of the team leaders who handle day-to- day operations in finance, grants, patient accounts and business intelligence. In what ways are you involved in the community? I have deployed a philos- ophy that most can contrib- ute by donating either time, talent, or treasure to the community. I have deployed this strategy to support local programs through financial donations, coaching and board/governance activities. On the Job Guiding business principles: My approach is to utilize two sets of guiding principles, ethical and managerial. Ethical approaches include honesty, integrity and fairness principles. My management approach is grounded in empowerment, accountability and collaboration principles. Best way to keep your competitive edge: Never stop learning, encourage and fund your staff to do the same. Plan for today, three and five years out to ensure good growth and efficient processes. In the healthcare environment, you must remain knowledgeable and flexible. A s the chief quality officer and vice president of organi- zational excellence, Jennifer Farley provides executive leadership to quality, risk, performance improvement, clinical contracts, respiratory and pharmacy operations, emergency preparedness and legal affairs. Statewide, she represents the long-term, acute-care hospital interests on committees within the Connecticut Hospital Asso- ciation and the Connecticut Healthcare Coalition for Emergency Preparedness. Farley's primary role can be summarized as "complex problem-solver," taking on improvement projects in a collaborative manner to ensure safe healthcare delivery. What have been your biggest professional accomplishments over the past year? I always consider my greatest accom- plishments to be those that involve collab- oration, problem-solving and efficiency realization. For me, it's always about the team. For this reason, I consider some of my biggest professional accomplishments over the last year to include co-development and launch of our inclusivity committee (R.I.S.E. – Respect, Inclusion, Support, Experience), and the department recognition program, Culture of Recog- nition, where the executive leadership team spotlights departments and individuals within those departments each month with the goal of showing gratitude and getting to know each other as coworkers. On the operational side, I led the organization through a successful tran- sition in radiology services, providing seamless integra- tion with a new partner. In what ways are you involved in the community? rough my roles on the board of directors with the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain and Community Chest of New Britain and Berlin, I am able to make an impact supporting the work of many nonprofits through grantmaking and community networking. On the Job Guiding business principle: You can only control yourself and your response. e rest is influence. Best way to keep your competitive edge: You must be a continuous learner.
