Northern Light lands new CEO Following a national search, the Northern Light Health board of directors selected Guy Hudson as the next president and CEO of Maine's second-largest health care system. Hudson will start in his new role in mid-October, succeed- ing Tim Dentry, who announced his retirement earlier this year. e appointment comes as Northern Light, like hospitals across Maine and the U.S., braces for finan- cial strain from reduced federal Medicaid funding. John Ryan, Northern Light Health's board chair, said Hudson is the ideal pick to lead the system "during these uniquely challenging times." Ryan added, "He has a proven record of leading financial turnarounds in hospital systems, balancing the need for financial discipline with providing world-class health care to the community." Loggers could get federal disaster relief Maine loggers and their peers nationwide would be entitled to federal disaster relief when natu- ral disasters strike under a bipar- tisan bill co-sponsored by all four members of Maine's congressional delegation. Current law excludes loggers from the kinds of disaster relief and assistance available to other industries, including fishermen and farmers, when natural disasters strike. Under the Loggers Economic Assistance and Relief Act, a disas- ter declaration from the president or governor would unlock federal assistance eligibility for eligible log- ging businesses. To be eligible, their revenue or volume would have to be at least 10% below the previous year. Covered damage would include high winds, fire, flooding insect infestation and drought. Funding would come from a new program to be established within the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
