NBT Bancorp Inc. in Portland reported net income for the second quarter of 2025 ending June 30 was $22.5 mil- lion, or 44 cents per diluted common share, compared to $32.7 million, or 69 cents per diluted common share, for the second quarter of 2024, and $36.7 million, or 77 cents per diluted common share, for the first quarter of 2025. Reframe Fitness LLC announced that it will open its second location at 180 Kennebec St. in Portland. The University of New England in Biddeford launched a nine-week online cannabis certificate programs in part- nership with Green Flower, a leader in cannabis education. A capital campaign launched by the nonprofit that owns Victoria Mansion in Portland is more than halfway toward its goal to raise $8 million toward pres- ervation projects and public programs. Victoria Mansion, a historic landmark at 109 Danforth St., dates to 1860 and became a museum in the 1940s. Skowhegan paper mill finishes $500M upgrade Sappi North America said that it is delivering commercial product to customers following the $500 million conversion and expansion of Paper Machine No. 2 at its Somerset Mill in Skowhegan. Qualification pro- cesses are being completed with a number of customers, and produc- tion will ramp up to full volumes through 2026. e $500 million investment doubles the produc- tion capacity of Paper Machine No. 2 and, the company said, positions the Somerset Mill as one of North America's most advanced produc- tion sites for high-performance solid bleached sulfate paperboard. It also drives Sappi's shift from the graphic paper market — now in decline — to growing sectors like packaging for food, beverages and consumer goods. Healthy Communities of the Capital Area in Hallowell received a two- year $80,000 grant from the Maine Cancer Foundation in support of its initiative to get teens to quit tobacco use. The Maine Association of Realtors Foundation, the chari- table arm of Maine Association of Realtors in Augusta, awarded a total of $210,000 through its 2025 Competitive Grant Program to 22 nonprofits to address a variety of housing needs of low-income indi- viduals and households. Elmet Technologies, a U.S.-owned and operated tungsten and mo- lybdenum manufacturer based in Lewiston, announced the issuance of U.S. Patent No. 12,359,290 titled "Tungsten Heavy Metal Alloy Powders and Methods of Forming Them," recognizing the company's continued innovation in powders for additive manufacturing and powder metallurgy applications.
