Orono construction firm promotes CEO Civil construction company Sargent Corp. announced that its leader, Herb Sargent, has retired from day- to-day operations as CEO, effective July 21. Taking on the CEO role is Eric Ritchie. Ritchie joined Sargent in 2018. He took over from Sargent as president in May 2024, after serv- ing as chief operations officer. He now holds the combined role of president and CEO. Herb Sargent will continue to serve as chair of the board. Sargent Corp. is the state's second-largest construction com- pany, according to the 2025 Mainebiz Book of Lists, based on 2023 revenue of $224.4 million. Eastern Maine Development Corp. in Bangor said that its Economic Recovery Implementation Hub pro- gram has awarded a total of $1.4 million in grant funding to 54 small businesses across the region as of July 1, 2025. KidsPeace, a Schnecksville, Pa.- based charity that serves the be- havioral and mental health needs of children, families and communities, announced that it received a $50,000 grant from the Boston-based Ludcke Foundation to support the establish- ment of a new facility for its educa- tion programs in Orono.
