This is Liang's third, five-year term, having served as dean since 2015. He is also a cardiovascular physician-sci- entist at the Pat and Jim Calhoun Cardiology Center of UConn Health. During his previous five-year term, Liang oversaw implementation of the M Delta curriculum, which focuses more on team-based learning and less on lecture-style coursework. In addition to serving as dean of the UConn School of Medicine, Liang is the Ray Neag Distinguished Professor of Cardiovascular Biology and Medicine. Stamford-based Webster Financial Corp. announced a new member of its C-suite. Jason E. Schugel has been named the regional lender's chief risk officer and executive vice president. Webster also named Frederick J. Crawford to its board of directors. Schugel, who most recently served as chief risk officer at Ally Bank, will assume the role on July 14. He succeeds Daniel Bley, who is retiring but will remain temporarily in an advisory capacity to aid the transition. Crawford, the former president and chief operating officer of AFLAC, joins the board as an independent member. He previously held senior executive roles at CNO Financial Group and Lincoln Financial Group and began his career in banking at Bank One Corp. St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury has named Dr. Isha Emhoff as its new chair of surgery. A board-certified general surgeon with fellowship training in complex cancer and breast surgery, Emhoff brings expertise in breast, melanoma, gastrointestinal and minimally invasive procedures. Before joining St. Mary's, she served as medical director of surgical oncology at St. Vincent Medical Group and Hospital in Worcester, Mass., where she also chaired the cancer committee and acted as cancer liaison physician to the commission on cancer. The Connecticut Urban Opportunity Collaborative has named Liany Elba Arroyo as its new director. The collaborative — a joint initiative of Fairfield County's Community Foundation, the Hart- ford Foundation for Public Giving, and The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven — works to advance equity and promote social and economic mobility in communities across the state. In her new role, Arroyo will coordi- nate leadership teams from the three foundations, manage collaborative investments, and oversee the imple- mentation and evaluation of joint initiatives. That includes work with funding partners, grantmaking and community engagement. Among CUOC's signature efforts is a three-year direct cash assistance pilot program launched in 2024 in partnership with UpTogether. The program provides monthly payments totaling $12,600 over three years to 120 community leaders in Bridge- port, Hartford and New Haven who are experiencing financial hardship and working to improve their neighborhoods. Previously, Arroyo served as chief operating officer at Charter Oak Health Center. Jewett City Savings Bank has appointed Amy Turner as assistant vice president and branch manager of its Plainfield office. Turner brings more than 30 years of banking experience to the role. She previ- ously served as branch manager and assis- tant vice president at Eastern Connecticut Savings Bank. An active member of the local business community, Turner serves as secretary of the Plainfield Business Association and is a member of the North- eastern Connecticut Chamber of Commerce.
