X I I § 2 J U N E 2 , 2 0 2 5 28 T he Tekαkαpimək Contact Station is a 7,896-square-foot visitor center situated atop Lookout Mountain within the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument. e name "Tekαkαpimək," pronounced deh gah-gah bee mook, is Penobscot for "as far as one can see," reflecting the expansive views the site offers. e building's design emphasizes sustain- ability, utilizing locally sourced materials where possible and operates off-grid. e interior fea- tures interpretive exhibits that provide visitors with insights into the natural and cultural signif- icance of the monument, particularly through a Wabanaki perspective. e surrounding 23-acre site includes accessible walking paths, gather- ing circles, and overlooks that honor the tradi- tions and heritage of the Wabanaki Nations. e site was connected to the existing infrastruc- ture through the construction of four miles of access roads.
