S U S T A I N A B I L I T Y BIW has undertaken several initiatives. Infrastructure efforts include supporting a major solar farm in Maine enabling more sustainable power and building new structures in the shipyard to withstand rising sea levels. BIW also has several efforts focused on greener commutes, including subsidizing shuttle and commuter bus use by our employees and working with GO MAINE to encourage employee ride sharing. BIW is actively engaged in efforts to protect the Kennebec River and to reduce the company's carbon footprint. Each year BIW recycles thousands of pounds of scrap wood and steel. The best part about this job is watching the ship come together: coordinating with all the trades to make it all become one. Seeing antennas installed, combat spaces loaded out, and bulkheads being put up is what makes this job so rewarding. We do amazing things here and I am truly honored to be a part of it all.
