B I Z 7 A P R I L 7 , 2 0 2 5 Expansion planned at yacht- services firm Portland Yacht Services has under construction at its facility at 100 West Commercial St. its eighth and largest service building, which when com- pleted this October and will total 45,000 square feet. e latest build will actually consist of two connected buildings, according to Jason Curtis, vice president for operations at the 18-acre boatyard, and will help to accommodate the growth the com- pany is seeing on the service side of the business. Portland Yacht Services is owned by Joanna and Phineas Sprague, who started the firm in 1987. It employs a team of about 60 in Portland and the company also owns White Rock Outboard on Sebago Lake Road in Gorham. Ceiling collapse at steakhouse 'could have been worse' A section of the ceiling at a Longhorn Steakhouse in South Portland collapsed into the dining room on March 28, but the city's fire chief said no serious injuries were reported. e fire department responded to the call at the restau- rant, which is at 300 Maine Mall Road, at 6:40 p.m., amid the dinner rush. Employees reported seeing ceiling tiles begin to fall and quickly moved patrons away from the area just before the collapse. e South Portland Fire Chief, Phil Selberg, said an estimated 150 people were in the restaurant at the time. "is situation could've been much worse," Selberg said. "e collapsed sec- tion appeared to be an architectural element of the ceiling and was quite substantial. We are fortunate that no one was seriously injured." Hannaford will expand Gray store Hannaford plans a 12,000-square- foot expansion of its Gray location at 130 Shaker Road. e grocer, which is headquartered in Scarborough, said the new space will provide for larger produce, meat and seafood departments, as well as a greater vari- ety of grab-and-go meals and dairy and frozen foods. e project, which will be managed by Saco-based PM Construction, will also expand the 30,000-square-foot store's phar- macy, add a second entrance and make room for more self-checkout registers. e store will remain open during the project.
