I hope to continue to volunteer my time with additional young women to help them achieve their goals and dreams. What's one of the biggest professional challenges you've overcome? We purchased a small business from an owner who was not honest or ethical. As his true colors emerged, it was extremely challenging to salvage and also grow his business while fighting him legally. How are you involved in the community? CompuMail supports many nonprofit organizations in a variety of ways. Personally, I have volunteered for every organization my children participated in. I also served 10 years on the Southing- ton Board of Education and six years on the board of directors of our local YMCA. I am currently a 'game day' volunteer, no longer in charge of events, but an extra set of hands when needed. What legacy do you want to leave after your career is over? I want to be remembered as a business owner who cared about her employees, customers and community, while always putting her family first. Kathleen ricKard CFO CompuMail Corp. K athleen Rickard graduated from Central Connecticut State Univer- sity in 1985. Aetna hired her as a contractual accounting analyst, and she ended her 12-year career with them in the medical marketing department of Aetna Health Plans. She founded CompuMail in 1990 along- side her husband, Dana. Rickard manages the day-to-day financial aspects of the company as well as human resources. What have been your biggest profes- sional accomplishments so far? In 1990, CompuMail began as a mail- ing company in four rooms with four employees. It currently occupies a 20,000-square-foot building and employs 25 people. CompuMail has continued to expand its service offerings by acquiring eight printing businesses. Now, we can provide a range of services, including graphic design, printing, mail- ing, signage and vehicle graphics. What's the next big goal you want to accomplish professionally?
