BUILDING PERMITS FOR NEW, PRIVATELY OWNED HOUSING UNITS IN MAINE
Maine housing starts ticked up
only slightly in 2024, with a total
of 5,991 building permits issued,
compared to 5,824 in 2023. The
number is well below the 10-year
high recorded in 2022, when 7,105
building permits were issued,
according to U.S. Census figures.
The only figure that stands out
from last year is the surge in
permits sought for multifamily
housing with three to four units,
113, the highest recorded in at
least a decade.
