Moser, a high-end furniture maker based in Auburn, has been sold to Chenmark, a Portland- based firm that acquires and oper- ates small businesses. os. Moser was founded by omas Moser, a Bates College professor, in 1972. In recent years, the company has been led by his son Aaron Moser, who is chairman of the board and will stay on in an ambassador role. Philip Hussey, a Chenmark vice president, has been named CEO of os. Moser. Operations will continue to be based in Auburn, where the company has an 80,000-square- foot workshop on Wrights Landing Road, near the airport. os. Moser has 112 employees, and the team is expected to remain in place. e furniture is still hand- crafted, with the works sold both direct to consumers and through retail channels from stores in Freeport, Boston, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. Kennebec Savings Bank named Maine Arts Academy, Foundation for Portland Public Schools and the Alfond Youth & Community Center as recipients of its 2024 Catalyst Grant. Each organization was awarded $30,000 over three years, for a total of $90,000 in grant funding. The Maine Association of Realtors Foundation, the charitable arm of Maine Association of Realtors in Augusta, said it awarded a total of $162,000 in matching grants to 29 or- ganizations across the state that pro- vide housing and/or fuel assistance to people with low incomes. Eastport marine supplier changes hands Moose Island Marine Supply in downtown Eastport, is transition- ing to its next chapter with the sale of the business from its founder, Dean Pike, to Matt Lacasse, a for- mer student and employee of Pike's. Founded in 1980, Moose Island Marine Supply, at 5 Sullivan St., is said to be the easternmost marine supply store in the U.S. e store serves the region's fishermen, boaters and tradespeople. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Pike is stepping into retirement. "Running Moose Island Marine for the past 45 years has been one of the greatest privi- leges of my life," said Pike. "Matt's dedication and proven ability to suc- cessfully manage Deep Cove Marine Services make him the ideal per- son to carry this business forward." Lacasse is an alumnus of the Boat School, a trade school in Eastport. Pike was his second-year instructor.
