Hartford leaders aim to leverage additional investment from CT Children's $326M campus expansion A group led by major Hartford employers Connecticut Children's, Hartford Hospital and Trinity College is planning to conduct a study to determine how best to use ongoing investments in the city's south-cen- tral region to spark additional economic and social growth along the Washington Street corridor. For nearly 50 years, these three institutions and local representa- tives have collaborated through the Southside Institutions Neighborhood Alliance, or SINA. That group is preparing to conduct a planning study for the Washington Street corridor, which is poised for significant new investment in the months and years ahead, headlined by CT Children's ongoing $326 million campus expan- sion. Hartford Hospital is also eyeing significant campus upgrades in the next decade. The Capital Region Development Authority agreed to chip in $25,000 for the planning study, making it the biggest donor so far. Other contributors include Liberty Bank ($15,000), the LAZ Foundation ($7,500) and Webster Bank ($5,000), resulting in $52,000 in total pledges. The planning study will look at several possibilities for the area, including the creation of a med-tech corridor, new housing, business attraction, streetscape upgrades and community partnerships. Private equity-backed Citrin Cooperman to acquire CT accounting firm Woodbridge-based accounting and consulting firm Teplitzky & Co. has entered into an agreement to be acquired by New York-based profes- sional services firm Citrin Cooperman. Under the agreement, Citrin will acquire substantially all the assets of Teplitzky & Co. P.C., located at 1 Bradley Road in Woodbridge, the firms said. Financial terms of the deal, which is expected to close in November, were not disclosed. The deal falls in line with a broader consolidation wave within the accounting industry. Citrin Cooperman is also among a growing number of accounting firms that recently accepted private equity investment, which is a relatively new trend within the accounting profession. Private equity firm New Mountain Capital acquired a majority stake in Citrin Cooperman in 2022. Since then, the firm has made a number of acquisitions. Teplitzky's five partners and more than 20 professionals will join Citrin Cooperman, which has an existing office in Norwalk. H artford HealthCare has filed an application with the city of Hartford seeking to expand its 65-acre flagship hospital campus by adding five buildings. The special permit application to the Hartford Plan- ning & Zoning Commission outlines Hartford Hospital's draft "facilities master plan." The projects eyed for the next decade include: • A new parking garage with up to 1,600 spaces and ground-floor space for clinical and community support programs, totaling about 600,000 square feet. • A new, 470,000-square-foot inpatient bed tower. • A new 80,000-square-foot patient bed wing expansion. • A new 80,000-square-foot cancer center and Emer- gency Department expansion, and • A new 35,000-square-foot medical office building and President's Corner revitalization. The garage expansion would be done in two phases and include demolishing the existing garage at 127 Jefferson St., which is slated to begin in early December. The proposal also would combine the lot at 127 Jefferson St. with lots at 143-145 Jefferson St. A Hartford HealthCare spokesperson said in an email that there are "many steps as we evaluate potential future buildings and share those plans with the city." The email added that the proposal is "conceptual in nature to show how the Hartford Hospital campus could evolve to better serve the needs of the community and improve the patient experience."
