Everything we do has a trickle-down effect leading to recognitions such as three straight grade A's from the Leapfrog Group, a four-star Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services rating, ongoing improvements in the Blue Cross Blue Shield Performance program and several specialty Joint Commission certifications. What are some major challenges the team had to overcome? New technologies can be intimidating to both seasoned staff and newly hired staff. It was important to create an envi- ronment that fostered collaboration and engagement. Ensuring caregivers were provided an education and understanding of each new process created opportunities that allowed valuable learnings. What are some major challenges the team had to overcome? e biggest challenge for our team was revamping the program following the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. By 2023, things were getting back to normal and allowed us to connect with leadership at local schools to reintroduce injury prevention programs, build rela- tionships and begin instruction again. What's the team's next major goal and/or challenge? We strive to continue building rela- tionships with local school systems and expanding our reach beyond Hartford. is includes providing instruction to teachers and leaders to demonstrate the importance of the life-saving tools and informational programs. Russell Hill, PA; Tracy Fox, RN; eodore Rogers; Patrick Gauthier; and Eric Ducat Winner Category | Healthcare Prevention St. Mary's Hospital Safety, Quality & Performance Improvement/Intensive Care Unit Team Led by: Stephanie Nelson, Director of Safety, Quality & Performance Improvement T he Safety, Quality & Performance Improvement/Intensive Care Unit at St. Mary's Hospital in Water- bury works to implement and maintain a hospital-wide practice of safety, quality and performance improvement through proactive audits, analysis, patient feed- back, events or trends. e team is a resource for staff educa- tion and assistance on quality of care, regulatory requirements and patient safety. With a focus on analyzing data to create and drive performance improve- ments, the team proactively works to raise the standard for the organization. What have been the team's significant contributions to the organization in the past year? Performance improvement is a mind- set and is about always working to elevate safety, quality and patient experience. We've spent significant time imple- menting new care models to enhance and improve patient care, including LEAF technology to reduce pressure injuries, enhanced monitoring for fall reduction, and more. Francis Hospital's Injury Preven- tion Team has a mission to develop and implement sustainable, inno- vative, comprehensive education and prevention initiatives that reduce the occurrence and consequence of injury, ensuring safer communities. e two main programs provided by the team are Let's Not Meet By Accident (LNMBA) and Stop the Bleed. What have been the team's significant contributions to the organization in the past year? e team has partnered with local schools, driver education programs, youth groups, court programs and community organizations to provide educational opportunities centered around injury prevention. We established partnerships with several high schools in the greater Hart- ford area, including Weaver, Classical Magnet, Hartford High, Conard, Hall High and Kaynor Technical. Since our injury prevention program was revital- ized in 2022, we have had 459 students participate in our LNMBA program, which includes Stop the Bleed training.
