wbjournal.com | September 30, 2024 | Worcester Business Journal 5 Westborough EV battery recycling firm officially expands to Europe, with opening of Poland facility Ascend Elements, a Westbor- ough-based company that recycles for- mer electric vehicle battery components into materials used to construct new batteries, has opened a jointly operated plant in Poland. e battery recycling plant is located in Zawiercie, Poland. Capable of pro- cessing approximately 28,000 EV battery packs per year, the plant is the result of a joint venture with Poland-based Elemental Strategic Materials. e project was first announced by the two firms in April; the two com- panies have plans for another plant in Germany. "is is a significant milestone for Ascend Elements, representing our first commercial-scale battery recycling facility in Europe. We're pleased to be working closely with Elemental Strategic Metals in this beautiful facility," Mike O'Kronley, CEO of Ascend Elements, said in a Sept. 19 press release announc- ing the grand opening of the facility. MetroWest chamber selects new CEO e MetroWest Chamber of Com- merce has named Reyad Shah as its new president and CEO. "e chamber has always been a cor- nerstone of support for local businesses and organizations, and I am excited to build on that foundation by introducing new initiatives and strengthening our partnerships across the region," Shah said in a Sept. 17 press release. Shah's hiring marks the chamber's first president and CEO of color, he said. Shah comes to his current role having most recently served as executive direc- tor of Downtown Framingham, Inc., a nonprofit working to bolster the area's economic and cultural landscape. Prior to his executive roles, Shah acted as manager of Flyers Aer School within the Framingham Public Schools system, overseeing all aerschool programming for the city's three middle schools, high school, and continuing education program.
