Saint-Gobain B R I E F S e victim has been identified as Brian Curtis Derby, age 67, of Townsend, according to the Office of Worcester County District Attorney. "Our hearts go out to the family of our longtime employee and friend who was killed in a tragic accident this morning at our Sterling Sand and Gravel pit," a statement posted to the Onyx Corp. website reads. "He was operating an ex- cavator within the safety zone of a 100- foot ledge face when the wall collapsed; we are not releasing his name pending notification of next of kin. Leading the investigation onsite is the Mining Safety and Health Administration who had been at the facility as recently as Aug. 20 for a company-requested inspection due to expanded operations." Onyx Corp. was founded in 1980 by John and Stacey Durkin and now has more than 100 employees. An Onyx-managed entity purchased the two parcels containing the quarry for a combined $650,000 in 2022, according to Town of Sterling property records. Marlborough 92-apartment project receives $41.4M A development firm, which purchased the future site of a 92-unit, mixed-use apartment building in downtown Marl- borough, has received $41.4 million in financing for the project. e Procopio Companies, a vertical- ly-integrated development, construction, and property management firm based in Middleton, received the funding to support construction of the upscale apartment building that is planned for 57 Main St., according to the Boston Real Estate Times. e 92,000-square-foot building named Exchange Place is planned for the site of the closed Rowe Funeral Home, adjacent to Marlborough's Union Common. Planned amenities at the site include a fitness center, pool, sundeck, and an in-building parking garage for residents. e ground floor will include space for potential restaurant or retail uses. e financing was provided by Bos- ton-based Twin Focus Real Estate Part- ners, a construction lending syndicate helmed by Brockton-based HarborOne Bank and Westfield Bank. Saint-Gobain breaks ground on new 47K-sq.-ft. administration building France-based manufacturer Saint- Gobain broke ground on a new admin- istration building Aug. 26, which will serve its flagship abrasives manufactur- ing campus in Worcester. e 47,000-square-foot facility is being developed by Indiana-based Pure Development, with California-based DPR Construction serving as design builder. e facility is expected to be open for business in January 2026, ac- cording to a Saint-Gobain press release issued Monday. "We look forward to working with our local partners as construction gets underway on our new state-of-the-art administration building and thank all of the stakeholders who have made this project possible," Patrick Dwyer, vice president of Abrasives North America, said in the press release. "Worcester has been our home for more than a century and today's groundbreaking ceremony reaffirms our commitment to a commu- nity that has always supported our work." Saint-Gobain's prior administration building is located in among the 51 acres of land the company transferred to a nonprofit entity managed by the Worces- ter Business Development Corp. in 2022. As of now, the new facility's address is 1 New Bond St., but upon completion of the building and a new roadway, it will be listed as 40 Abrasives Way. Saint-Gobain first established a pres- ence in Worcester in 1990 with its pur- chase of Norton Abrasives, a company that had been operating in the city since 1885. Based in France, Saint-Gobain has Company and community officials shovel the ceremonial dirt at the Saint-Gobain ground- breaking of a new administration building.
