In his place, CVS CEO Karen Lynch will assume direct leader- ship of Aetna, along with CFO Tom Cowhey. Lynch previously led Aetna as president. Kane began his role as president in September 2023. CVS also announced plans to cut $2 billion in costs over the next several years. The leadership change came after CVS lowered its 2024 profit guidance for a third consecutive quarter and reported a 7.6% drop in second-quarter net income. Adjusted operating income in the compa- ny's healthcare benefits segment, which includes Aetna, decreased 39% due to "increased utilization and the unfavorable impact of the previously disclosed decline in the company's Medicare Advantage star ratings for the 2024 payment year," among other factors. The second 5,872-square-foot building is a maintenance barn with storage for golf carts and operations equipment. The course will be sold during a Sept. 26 auction set for 11 a.m. Blue Fox Run opened in the early 1970s and is owned by Blue Fox Run Golf LLC, which is controlled by Lisa Wilson-Foley, a prominent local entrepreneur. Simsbury-based CHK Architects merges with New York firm CHK Architects, an architectural firm based in Simsbury, said it will merge with DCAK-MSA Architec- ture & Engineering, a New York company with offices in Rockland, Westchester and Suffolk counties. Calling the merger a "strategic partnership," CHK said the deal will significantly enhance its capabilities, geographic reach and service offerings. As part of the merger, CHK partner Hugh Schweitzer has acquired equity ownership in the combined firm, which offers architecture, interior design, civil engineering, construction and design-build services. 70-year-old Olympia Diner in Newington listed for sale An iconic diner in Newington that has been featured in movies and has hosted everyone from politi- cians to truck drivers over seven decades is for sale. The Olympia Diner, at 3413 Berlin Turnpike, is available for sale or long-term ground lease, according to a real estate listing. For now, the diner remains open. The family that owns the diner declined to comment. The Olympia Diner sits on a 1-acre property along a busy section of the Berlin Turnpike, near the corner of Pane Road. The location could be ideal for a drive- thru restaurant or auto repair shop, Hearst CT Media Group offices. CONTRIBUTED PHOTO Hearst CT media staff announce unionization effort Staff at Hearst Connecticut Media Group, publisher of eight daily and 13 weekly newspapers around the state, announced they are working to form a union. The group — composed of reporters, photographers, editors and digital producers at Hearst — said 92 members of its 110-person unit have signed union cards with NewsGuild-CWA, which represents more than 25,000 journalists in the U.S. and Canada. The Hearst CT staff members said they presented management with a mission statement and asked the company to voluntarily recog- nize the union, which it didn't do. The statement said guild members deserve a say in news- room decisions, such as artificial intelligence implementation, work- from-home policies and benefits, and "pay that keeps up with infla- tion and meets the significant cost of living in our communities." Hearst Newspaper Group has been steadily growing in Connecticut for more than a decade, acquiring last year both the Journal Inquirer in Manchester and Meriden- based Record Journal. But staffers said the company's investment in Connecticut hasn't always been felt in the newsroom: many Hearst CT employees make around $50,000 a year, and in some cases, less.
