Auburn breaks ground on PAL community center e city of Auburn broke ground mid-July on a $9 million community center run by the city's Police Activities League. e PAL Community Center will replace the smaller Police Activities League Center that has been at the same 24 Chestnut St. site since 2013. e center will host the activities league and will serve as a hub for super- vised after-school and summer youth activities and mentoring. Maine Development Foundation in Hallowell said it was awarded $535,000 in congressionally di- rected spending to offer training and online micro-credential courses for working-age Mainers who can then fill jobs in Maine's forest products industry. The funding will support the Pathways to Prosperity for a Skilled Forest Workforce program, in partnership with Spruce Mountain Adult Education, and the Forestry Product Sector Micro-Credential on- line course, in partnership with the University of Maine. Franklin Community Health Network in Farmington said its annual Health Care Golf Classic raised $42,000 for the Healthy Community Coalition of Greater Franklin County and the Martha B. Webber Breast Care Center at Franklin Memorial Hospital. The 10th annual Cruisin' for A Cure Car Show, hosted by New Dimensions Federal Credit Union in Waterville, raised $21,221 for the Maine Children's Cancer Program, a division of the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital. Renee Cunningham moved Oliver & Friends Bookshop into a ground- floor leased space at Main Street Commons, a Colby College residential facility at 150 Main St. in Waterville. The move completes a plan first an- nounced in February. The Beth Brunswick Memorial Fund for Children will fund a $3.5 million child care center in Rangeley that could be key to building the Franklin County town's workforce. Currently there are fewer than 20 early child care slots available in the town. A groundbreaking for the center will be Aug. 30.
