16 Worcester Business Journal | July 22, 2024 | wbjournal.com A t Quinsigamond Community College, we're proud to serve as a catalyst for growth and opportunity in the Greater Worcester area. Our commitment to accessible, quality education not only empowers individuals, but also strengthens our community. As we look to the future, we remain dedicated to fostering innovation, workforce development, and economic prosperity in our region. Our impact extends far beyond our campus, transforming lives, enriching careers, and building a stronger, more prosperous community for all. Quinsigamond Community College has been a cornerstone of education in Worcester for over 60 years. With a diverse population of over 13,000 students annually, we offer a wide range of academic programs, workforce training, and community initiatives that contribute significantly to the region's social and economic fabric. Luis G. Pedraja, Ph.D. n Economic Impact: Quinsigamond Community College generates substantial economic activity in Greater Worcester. Through direct employment, operational spending, and the increased earning potential of graduates, QCC's economic impact for the 2022-2023 fiscal year was $349.8 million, according to an economic impact study by labor market analyst Lightcast. With over 1,000 employees and an alumni base exceeding 36,000, QCC's influence extends to most citizens in the Greater Worcester area. n Academic Excellence: QCC offers over 110 degree and certificate programs across various disciplines, from healthcare and technology to business and the arts. Expert faculty (many who have real-world, industry-specific experience), coupled with innovative teaching methodologies, and robust support services such as tutoring and mentoring, ensure that students receive a relevant, high-quality education that prepares them for success in their chosen careers. n Workforce Development: Partnerships with local businesses form the backbone of QCC's workforce development initiatives. QCC provides customized training programs, apprenticeships, co-ops, and career services that bridge the gap between education and employment. Industry-specific certifications in areas such as advanced manufacturing, healthcare, and information technology help meet the evolving needs of Worcester's job market. n Community Engagement: QCC is deeply embedded in the communities it serves. Services such as multilingual tax preparation, dental care for seniors, and resource fairs for veterans make up just a fraction of the positive impact on the communities QCC serves. The college's Adult Community Learning Center is a lifeline for many in Worcester and the surrounding communities, providing programming for adult learners pursuing a GED or adult English language learners. QCC's partnerships with local schools, including Early College programs with Worcester Public Schools and Southbridge Public Schools, help create pathways to higher education for area youth. The college also hosts cultural events, public lectures, and workshops that enrich the intellectual and cultural life of Worcester. n Grants: In the past year, the college has secured over $10 million in grants, funding projects ranging from STEM education initiatives to healthcare workforce training. In May of 2024, QCC was one of only five community colleges nationwide to receive New America's Child Care for Student Parents grant, which will fund a child watch program for parenting students. n Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: As a reflection of Worcester's diverse population, QCC strives to create an inclusive and equitable environment that celebrates diversity. In collaboration with several other higher education institutions, QCC is currently developing a DEI certificate program to educate faculty and staff on best practices to support and celebrate the broad spectrum of individuals who learn at QCC. n Future Vision: Looking ahead, Quinsigamond Community College is poised to expand its impact on Greater Worcester, developing innovative programs in emerging fields, enhancing learning modalities and educational equipment, and strengthening partnerships with local industries. Supporting student success, while remaining a vital force in the region's economic growth, is at the heart of Quinsigamond Community College. The Harrington Learning Center at QCC.
