Blaze Pizza, a national build-your-own pies restaurant chain, announced that it will open a location at 451 Payne Road in Scarborough in the fall of 2024. Full Plates Full Potential in Brunswick announced that it awarded a total of $7.4 million to seven organiza- tions through the USDA's School Food System Innovation Grants program. Recipients included Five Pillars Butchery, Peak Season and the Good Crust, $1.5 million each; Maine Food Strategy/Maine Food Convergence, $1.4 million; Auburn Public Schools, $623,970; Maine Coast Fishermen's Association, $608,606; and RSU 54/ MSAD 54, $225,887. The Ecology School in Saco was awarded a three-year grant totaling $343,000 from the USDA's Urban Agriculture and Innovative Production program to support its Agroecology for Resilient Communities Project, which includes innovative agroecology farm- ing operations, food systems educa- tion, apprenticeship workforce training, and fresh food distribution to Saco and Biddeford middle school students in partnership with Youth Full Maine. Organizers of the 19th Seacoast Half Marathon announced that Mainspring: The Seacoast Social Service Collective in Kittery will receive all pro- ceeds raised from the Oct. 27 race. UMA launches aviation maintenance school e University of Maine at Augusta will open the state's first aviation maintenance technician school. UMA secured final approval in early July from the Federal Aviation Administration. Students will start courses online and hands-on train- ing at the statewide university's Brunswick Landing aviation campus in late August. "Qualified aircraft mechanics are in extremely high demand and short supply," said Jesse Laughlin, general manager of the Portland-based Northeast Air. Chris Kilgour, CEO of C&L Aviation Services in Bangor, added: "We cur- rently recruit from out of state and it will be advantageous to be able to do so closer to home." N O T E W O R T H Y C E N T R A L & W E S T E R N American Express and Main Street America announced that Oliver & Friends Bookshop in Waterville received a $10,000 grant through its Backing Small Businesses Grant Program. 64 apartments planned for Brunswick Landing A second phase of construction for the Atlantic Pointe apartment com- plex at Brunswick Landing is under- way. Jones Street Investment Partners, the Boston real estate investment firm developing Atlantic Pointe, said 64 apartments will be added in Phase 2. e first phase included 181 units and wrapped up construction July 1. A Jones Street spokesperson told Mainebiz the initial units are 72% leased and 57% occupied. e second phase, expected to be complete during the summer of 2025, will have a mix of one- and two-bedroom units across four four-story buildings, as well as 111 parking spaces.
