A/Z Corp.'s primary focus is and will be construction man- agement. Pittsfield-based Cianbro Corp. is Maine's largest construc- tion firm, with $1.2 billion in reve- nue in 2022 and 3,000 employees, according to the 2024 Mainebiz Book of Lists. Moosehead Marine Museum will receive $500,000 in federal funds to be used for the restoration of the Katahdin, the historic steam- ship that transports 8,500 passen- gers a year on Moosehead Lake. With the funding, the campaign has raised 78% of a goal of $2 million. Restoration of the Katahdin is being done in phases, with work sched- uled for the off-season. The federal funding was secured by U.S. Sens. Susan Collins, R-Maine, and Angus King, I-Maine. The Maine Community Foundation in Ellsworth said it distributed a total of $4.7 million to 162 individual beneficiaries directly impacted by the Oct. 25, 2023, mass shootings in Lewiston from the Lewiston-Auburn Area Response Fund. The founda- tion also announced that its Rines Thompson Fund awarded a total of $148,000 to 26 Greater Portland nonprofits in 2023. Donors with advised funds awarded an additional two grants totaling $10,000. Island Institute, a community devel- opment nonprofit in Rockland serving Maine's island and coastal commu- nities, announced that it awarded a total of $250,000 in Business Resilience Storm Response Grants to 52 waterfront businesses in the wake of back-to-back storms in January. A Brunswick Landing facility that turns solid biowaste into electricity, built less than a decade ago for $10 million, has been sold to a New York energy company, Viridi Energy, for an undisclosed price. Viridi Energy said it will convert the facility into a plant for producing renewable natural gas, which could come online in 2026. The facility is expected to generate enough renewable energy to heat more than 3,000 homes a year. Northern Light Health in Brewer said it was selected as the newest member of the Health Care Climate Council, a leadership body of health systems com- mitted to protecting its patients and employees from the health effects of climate change and becoming anchors for resilient communities. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced that the Passamaquoddy Tribe at Pleasant Point will receive technical assistance through the Building Blocks for Sustainable Communities program to pursue the development strategies that expand upon existing brownfields efforts and advance clean air, clean water, equitable development and other local goals. Hotel Ursa, at 1 Moosehead Road on the University of Maine campus in Orono, has opened its doors with 95 guest rooms and a cafe and bar named MajorMinor. The $28 million hotel was developed by Pennsylvania- based Radnor Property Group and Chicago-based Harrison Street, an investment firm. The Portland firms Archetype Architects and Wright- Ryan Construction handled design and construction, respectively. The hotel is being managed by Portland- based Olympia Hospitality. Bangor International Airport is taxiing to the start of two major infrastructure improvement projects, expected to cost a total of more than $59 million.
