Farmington manufacturer acquires NJ company with plans to move its operations to CT A Farmington-based precision manufacturer has acquired a New Jersey company and plans to move its production to Connecticut. Connecticut Spring & Stamping (CSS), which is head- quartered at 48 Spring Lane, purchased Tryco Tool & Manufacturing effective February 1, 2024. CSS, a family-owned company started more than 85 years ago, produces metal springs, progressive stampings, fine-blanked stamp- ings, machined components and assemblies for numerous industries. Tryco is a precision stamping house that focuses on complex progressive dies and production for government, commercial, electrical and aerospace markets. CSS said Tryco will continue manufacturing in New Jersey for three to six months. After that, CSS plans to move all production to its three facilities in Farmington and Southington. CSS said it intends to hire about 15 people to support the Tryco acqui- sition. It also has an additional 15 open positions posted on its website. 'Solid growth and sustained economic progress': CT employers add nearly 47K jobs over last 2 years Connecticut employers added 18,400 jobs in 2023 after gaining 28,500 jobs in 2022, according to the state Department of Labor's annual benchmark report. The state showed solid job growth and sustained economic progress, the report says, adding 46,900 jobs over the last two years. Connecticut is now at a 16-year high with 1.7 million payroll jobs. The private sector, which has 1.47 million payroll jobs, is 102.9% recovered from the pandemic, the report states. Department of Labor Commis- sioner Danté Bartolomeo said hiring remains a challenge — Connecticut employers currently have roughly 94,000 job openings. Meantime, 2024 started on a positive note, with employers adding an estimated 7,400 jobs in January. UConn Health could name a new CEO in April After more than two years, the search for a new chief executive officer for UConn Health could end next month. "The search process is in its final stages and at this point we expect to announce a new CEO in early April," said Lauren Woods, a spokeswoman for UConn Health. UConn Health has been searching for a new CEO since Dr. Andrew Agwunobi resigned his dual roles as interim president of the University of Connecticut and CEO of UConn Health in February 2022. He left to accept a job with health insurance company Humana. Dr. Bruce Liang, dean of the UConn School of Medicine, has been serving as interim CEO of UConn Health since Agwunobi's departure. Radenka Maric was named the university's 17th presi- dent in September 2022. According to minutes from the December UConn Health board of directors meeting, Maric told the board that CEO candidates would be presented by a search firm "in the coming weeks," and that interviews were "happening in January." It's not clear how many finalist candidates are under consideration. UConn hired Diversified Search Group, a Philadelphia-based executive search firm, to conduct the search. Two CT hospitals get new interim leader Dr. Jeff Finkelstein has been named interim president of Hartford HealthCare's central region, over- seeing both MidState Medical Center in Meriden and The Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain. He was appointed to the role earlier this year, following the depar- ture of Gary Havican, who has been hired by Long Island, New York-based Catholic Health as executive vice president and chief operating officer. Havican — who now oversees the operations of Catholic Health's six hospitals, employed medical group, and home-care and hospice services — started his new job on Feb. 5. Hartford HealthCare, in an email newsletter to staff, said it's undertaking a search for Havican's permanent replacement. Prior to being named interim regional president, Finkelstein held the title of vice president for medical affairs in the central region. Spanish energy giant Iberdrola seeks to fully purchase CT utility company Avangrid The Spanish energy giant that majority owns Orange-based utility company Avangrid Inc. is seeking to fully purchase the publicly traded company. Iberdrola currently owns 81.6% of Avangrid. Under the "take private" proposal, Iberdrola would buy the outstanding shares for $2.49 billion, or $34.25 per common share. Avangrid's board of directors has appointed a committee to review the offer, with help from independent legal and financial advisers, the Avangrid's headquarters in Orange.
