London-based company to launch energy grid market in CT Piclo, a London-based company, is expanding its operations into Connecticut to establish a local energy grid flexibility market, which will be the first of its kind in New England. Piclo has received $1.8 million in funding from the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority's Inno- vative Energy Solutions program to create the market, which is set to launch this spring. A grid flexibility market allows aggregators of small and medium-sized power resources, such as rooftop solar arrays, to connect with utilities via a digital marketplace. That means when utilities do not have sufficient supply to meet demand, they can buy electricity from aggregators rather than purchase expensive bulk power from peaking plants on the wholesale market. Piclo said it will partner with local stake- holders, including Orange-based United Illumi- nating, to establish the market. A rendering of Wegmans' planned Norwalk store. Wegmans constructing first grocery store in CT Wegmans Food Markets Inc. has begun constructing its first grocery store in Connecticut. Last year, Wegmans received zoning approval for a 91,600-square-foot grocery store at 47 Rich- ards Ave., in Norwalk. Design plans show a stone and brick facade, with a cupola and clock tower. A 110,070-square-foot office building on the property needs to be demolished before the grocery store can be built. Demolition work is currently underway. According to the plans, Wegmans will also redevelop neighboring properties at 677 and 651 Connecticut Ave., where two roughly 8,000-square-foot retail buildings will be constructed. The site, which totals 12.3 acres, is located between Connecticut Avenue and Interstate 95. The store, expected to open in 2025, is designed to feel like an "open-air market," according to the zoning application.
