B I Z 7 F E B R UA R Y 5 , 2 0 2 4 The Maine Downtown Center, a program of Maine Development Foundation in Hallowell, was award- ed a $331,050 Marketing and Development Recovery Grant from the Maine Office of Tourism, which was funded through the U.S. Economic Development Administration American Rescue Plan Act Travel, Tourism, and Outdoor Recreation State Grant. The funds will support the development of tourism experiences in historic down- towns that in turn boost the larger community's economic recovery and strengthen the resilience of these downtowns going forward. The Professional Logging Contractors of the Northeast said it raised a re- cord $287,691 for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals in Maine in 2023 through its annual Log A Load for Kids fundraising efforts. United Way of Kennebec Valley in Augusta announced that it raised a record-breaking $1.9 million in 2023, reflecting a 4% increase over the pre- vious year's total. Norway Savings Bank donated $20,000 to the Bridgton Food Pantry to help fund the purchase of a new location at 498 Main St. The Finance Authority of Maine in Augusta approved a $500,000 FAME Direct Loan for GO Lab Inc., doing business as TimberHP, a manufacturer of wood fiber-based insulation products in Madison, to support the company's purchase of explosion-suppression equipment needed to complete the second and third production lines for its board and batten insulation prod- ucts. The funding, combined with a $500,000 loan from the Maine Rural Development Authority, is expected to help create and retain 114 jobs in Somerset County.
