4 City of Worcester: 300 Years

ORCESTER'S 300TH BIRTHDAY may likely be the only celebration of this kind
that we will be able to fully experience in our lifetimes!
We were both too young to participate in Worcester's 250th celebration in 1972, and
while we hope to be around for the 350th, only time will tell.
We are very excited for Worcester's Tercentennial celebration for many reasons:
FIRST, our city has come a long way in the past several decades and the people of Worcester deserve a
celebration that offers the chance to pause and reflect on the many successes in our community, earned
through the hard work and determination of all of its people;
SECOND, as Worcester girls (both born and raised here and graduates of the Worcester Public School
system who have built our families, homes and careers here), we feel a love and enthusiasm for this city and
its people that we hope is contagious and we wanted to parlay that into a celebration of which we can all be
proud; and
FINALLY, and probably most important, there is an opportunity in this celebration that we just couldn't
ignore. To us, the 300th birthday of Worcester provides an opportunity to bring perspectives, hands, voices
narratives and people to the project in a way that is both long-lasting and memorable.
The past few years have provided the people of our community with many uncertain and challenging times
as we navigated through a pandemic and its aftermath. We can't think of a more important time, or a better
reason, for all of us to come together to celebrate with our friends and neighbors.
We hope you will join in our excitement for Worcester's Tercentennial celebration, and we look forward to
seeing you at one of the many events throughout 2022.
