Worcester Public Market/Kelley Square Lofts 15
While the interior at Crompton Place is buzzing with
activity, the exterior is also attracting attention. Since 2013,
the area behind the building has been the site of a farm-
er's market every Saturday. Shoppers have a chance to ex-
perience the best that local vendors have to offer, from
handmade soaps, fresh, local fruit, vegetables, honey and
baked goods to craft cider, assorted flowers, and other
treasures from the area. Approximately 2,000 people visit
the farmer's market each week as well as the shops inside
Crompton Place. Lorusso calls the neighborhood a "gath-
ering place." He said, "I can come down my stairs and
buy fresh fruit and vegetables. I can walk into Birch Tree
and get fresh bread. We walk the neighborhood. It's very
European."
People from all areas of Massachusetts, as well as from
Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont and Rhode Island
have come to visit, dine and shop at the newly established
businesses in the Water/Harding/Green Streets area. Not
only has Crompton Place generated new life in the Canal
District, but it has also set the stage for the creation of
Kelley Square Lofts and the Worcester Public Market. n
The Farmer's Market, held every Saturday morning, features locally
produced fruits, vegetables, handcrafted items and other artisnal
products.
