I am most proud of having started as an intern at LPA|A, gradually increasing my skills, taking on more responsibility to eventually become President of the firm. I try to pay that forward to the next generation of leaders by always encouraging staff to think beyond their current roles and responsibilities." Sustainable Design One notable school project became a model of sustainable design, one of the firm's key building blocks since its inception. As a matter of course, staff collaborates with clients to produce a final product that meets or exceeds environmental standards, incorporates renewable energy systems and integrates responsible reuse procedures. Moreover, the firm works with each client to devise design elements that adhere to established goals and that are unique to each project. This outstanding project was the design of the Nelson Place Elementary School in Worcester. The City sought an academic facility that could accommodate 600 students from Pre-K through 6th grade, including a large population of students with disabilities, and a district-wide autism program. The end result was a school with adaptable features that enhance learning for all students. Flexible lighting, movable furniture and a range of technologies enable teachers to effectively communicate and support students.
