THE CUSTOMER OF TODAY AND TOMORROW
Dexter abides by a major governing principle: to listen and respond to our customers
and do our best to exceed their expectations. In industrial sales, relationships can be
formed over decades, and solid execution is earned and respected on both sides of the
ledger. Respecting our customer, and earning their respect in return is a part of the
Dexter DNA.
A key aspect of Dexter's overall business strategy includes acquisitions of other
companies to help grow the company faster than the traditional market. Peppel
indicated that Dexter has focused in the past, and will focus in the future, on
companies that complement its expertise and also help to diversify the company's
portfolio. "We also have 'sales synergy,' which means that we use our sales force and
customer knowledge to leverage relationships to sell more products." For instance,
Dexter acquired Barr Brothers, which is the leader in industrial, hand-held hooks
used in processing and other markets. "We were able to fold Barr Brothers into our
existing footprint, sell the products to our existing customers, add it to our product
offering and make the Dexter position stronger in the market," he added.
For Dexter to grow at an accelerated pace, the company has to honor its business
foundations, while finding new business and markets, according to Peppel. "As we
have proven, selling more to our existing customers can be mutually beneficial. Or,
we will seek new markets to grow that require our manufacturing expertise." n
