A FAMILY AFFAIR
Shortly after establishing his cutlery company, Harrington married a local Southbridge
woman, Mariah Oaks, daughter of Ames Oaks. e couple had six sons – several
eventually joined the family business – and one daughter.
In 1849, Henry's son eodore established his own cutlery business, specializing in
shoe knives. Although less precise than his father's cutlery products, his shoe knives
were of high quality and found a ready market, both at home and abroad. Business
was steady, so he was able to employ a workforce of twenty men and kept his business
separate from his father's.
Harrington chose a
unique design and
materials for his fiddle.
