Karraine Moody, CEO of Habitat for Humanity of North Central Connecticut (HFHNCC) implemented a
multi-tier approach to address the aordable housing crisis which includes new construction,
rehabilitation of blighted properties, critical repairs and financial literacy to serve
50 families throughout Greater Hartford and Tolland.
In 2018, Habitat for Humanity of North Central Connecticut made a
commitment to build sustainably to ensure the aordability of its
homes for future homeowners. At that time, the organization worked
with its community partners to build the first Net Zero, ENERY STAR-certified in
Hartford and the first one built by a Habitat organization in Connecticut.
Since then, HFHNCC has received three Housing Innovation Awards from the
Department of Energy for their improved house design and construction - and in 2022,
the organization built 10 ENERGY STAR-certified homes.
Additionally, HFHNCC has consistently maintained a four star rating from Charity Navigator
and been named a Best Place to Work by Hartford Business Journal for 10 years. These
achievements could not have been completed without the assistance of its community
partners, stakeholders and volunteers, which are key components to our innovation.
