B4 HARTFORDBUSINESS.COM | OCTOBER 30, 2023 HEALTHCARE HEROES WINNER CATEGORY Advancement in Healthcare - Prevention Jessica Mancarella Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, Yale New Haven Health System Trauma Program Manager Emergency Department Jessica Mancarella has 15 years of experi- ence in critical care and emergency nursing, and is currently the trauma program manager at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital. She is responsible for providing the tools and information necessary to provide care to injured patients and addressing prevent- able causes of injury in the community. What have been your significant contribu- tions to your organization in the past year? I created and presented education for healthcare providers across many depart- ments, including the emergency depart- ment, operating room, surgical floors and critical care areas, and promoted system changes to support the care of patients admitted with injuries. I was published in Nursing 2023, sharing helpful techniques from a mindfulness intervention I implemented to reduce stress and decrease burnout, with the intent to care for the nurses and health- care heroes who give so selflessly. I facilitated 13 nationally developed Stop the Bleed programs that trained 189 community members on potentially life-saving techniques. What's your next major goal and/or challenge? I am currently studying to take the exam to become a trauma certified registered nurse to increase my knowledge, stay current and inspire potential improvements. Tell us about a challenge in your job that you were able to overcome. My biggest challenge is me. I don't always achieve work-life balance, but the teams I work with across the hospital are amazing, making coming to work fun and enjoyable. They encourage me to set limits, break goals into smaller chunks with achievable timelines, and work with me to achieve them. WINNER CATEGORY Advancement in Healthcare - Prevention Juan J.
