Subway opens new dual HQ in Shelton R estaurant giant Subway has officially opened its new 90,000-square-foot global dual headquarters in Shelton. The three-story office building is located in Shelton's business district, at 1 Corporate Drive. It features an open floor plan with several conference, huddle and multipurpose rooms, and a space called "The Lounge," for employees to meet, dine and socialize. Subway's Connecticut-based employees — including workers in human resources, finance and legal departments — have fully transitioned to the new Shelton building. Previously, Subway made its home in Milford. The new Shelton location serves as Subway's dual headquarters with its Miami site, which opened last year and is home to consum- er-facing functions and Latin America regional office staff. CT unveils $1.5M rebranding, marketing effort; aims to boost home-state pride From high-tech helicopters to "the country's best pizza," medical breakthroughs and aerospace, Connecticut's innovative culture and quality of life makes it an ideal place to live, work and grow a business, according to the state's new marketing campaign. Gov. Ned Lamont has launched a $1.5 million campaign to hammer home Connecticut's best qualities. It's as much an attempt to instill home-state pride in residents as it is to convince those beyond Connecticut's borders. The "Make It Here" campaign will use advertising and digital media to highlight Connecticut's position as an innovative hub of arts, sciences and manufacturing, as well as a great place to live, work and enjoy life. Advertisements will begin Nov. 1, in traditional and digital media, streaming services, billboards and placements in travel hubs like Bradley International Airport and Metro-North Railroad. State approves Bronin's request to reduce financial oversight on Hartford A state oversight board has approved Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin's request to lift certain restrictions on city finances imposed after it nearly went bank- rupt several years ago. When Bronin took office in 2016, the city was on the brink of insolvency and faced a budget deficit greater than $50 million, as its population shrank and pension debt mounted. Rather than file for bankruptcy, the city requested a period of state oversight in exchange for hundreds of millions of dollars in aid. Since then, Bronin said the city's financial condition has substantially improved. Bronin formally asked State Treasurer Erick Russell and the Office of Policy & Management to remove Hartford's designation as a "Tier III municipality," a sign of significant financial risk. Under Tier III status, the city was required to submit monthly financial reports to the Municipal Account- ability Review Board (MARB). Also, the city's annual budget, collective bargaining agreements and many non-labor contracts were subject to MARB approval. The MARB approved Bronin's request during a meeting earlier this month. The city will now fall under a less-stringent Tier II status. "This is a major accomplishment for our city, and a credit to our collec- tive commitment to prudent and disciplined fiscal stewardship over the last several years," Bronin said. Aer Lingus expands flight schedule from Bradley to Ireland Aer Lingus is expanding its flight service schedule to Ireland from Bradley International Airport beyond just the summer tourism season. The Irish airline said it is adding new flight options from Bradley to Dublin Airport during the fall and winter seasons, making it almost a year-round service. The new schedule has been expanded to include: • Three weekly flights from Oct. 28 through Jan. 5. • No operations from Jan. 6 through March 12. • Three weekly flights from March 13 through March 28. • Daily flights from March 30 through October 2024. Aer Lingus relaunched flights from Bradley International Airport to Dublin earlier this year, after shutting the service down during the pandemic. From March through July of this year, Aer Lingus recorded 39,310 passengers flying in and out of Bradley Airport.
