HARTFORDBUSINESS.COM | OCTOBER 16, 2023 35 POWER 25 | HEALTH CARE Susan Huntington S usan Huntington is a partner at law firm Day Pitney, where she leads the healthcare practice as chair. Her legal career has been focused on health law. In addition to being an attorney, Huntington is a certified physician assistant, which gives her unique insights into the general clinical envi- ronment and challenges and opportu- nities in the healthcare industry. Huntington represents health- care providers with business and regulatory matters, such as forming accountable care orga- nizations (ACOs) and clinical integration networks. Her clients have included hospitals and large physician groups. She provided legal assistance for the formation of three Medi- care shared savings program ACOs, including two national ACOs, a statewide clinically integrated network and multiple ACO-like arrangements with third-party payers. Huntington represents clients in contract negotiations with insurers, and provides advice on M&A activity to ensure deals comply with healthcare regulations. She also counsels on privacy regulations and data breaches. During her career, Huntington has served as in-house counsel at Aetna and as deputy general counsel at Hartford HealthCare. She worked for more than a decade at an international insurance company as its health- care practice leader and senior vice president. Huntington also frequently writes about healthcare and legal matters, and is an author and editor of Day Pitney's healthcare quarterly newsletter C.H.A.T., which stands for cybersecurity, healthcare and technology. Huntington has served as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Connecticut Medical School. Jodie Gillon J odie Gillon stepped into her new role as president and CEO of BioCT in May, leading an organization that represents the state's bioscience industry. Gillon, a Westport resident, has been an active advocate in the healthcare field during her career, including lobbying the U.S. Congress for improvements to healthcare laws. An epidemiologist, she has 25 years of experience in the phar- maceutical and biotech industries, including roles at companies such as Pepti- logics, Abeona Therapeutics, Pfizer, Achil- lion Phar- maceuticals, AstraZeneca, Novartis and Oridion Medical. BioCT manages two incubators, one in Groton and another in New Haven, with the latter at the John B. Pierce Laboratory on Congress Avenue. In addition to supporting the state's approximately 1,300 life sciences companies, BioCT provides lobbying, mentoring and educational services. After starting her new role, Gillon embarked on a listening tour with stakeholders to learn about their needs and concerns, and how BioCT can help. Growing the state's venture capital base and bioscience workforce are two top priorities, she said. Gillon also plans to boost awareness of Connecticut's bioscience industry outside the state, to help attract more companies, venture capitalists and investors here. BioCT hosts networking and informational events covering topics ranging from the avail- ability of state and federal tax credits to the future of laboratory space. Gillon said she wants to expand the organization's event offerings. In September, BioCT announced that it will move early next year into a new bioscience tower, at 101 College St., in New Haven. Gillon said the orga- nization needed office space, and the building was appealing because of its state-of-the-art event space, which can accom- modate up to 400 people and allow more programming. 6.00 % APY* 6-MONTH CERTIFICATE 5.75 % APY* 13-MONTH CERTIFICATE Federally insured by NCUA. * Annual Percentage Yield (APY) effective September 7, 2023.
