City of Worcester opens chief equity officer search e City of Worcester has opened its search for a chief equity officer, looking to fill a role vacant since spring 2022 and aer a substantial restructuring. e person hired into this role will oversee the new Executive Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, which received a 67% increase in city fund- ing, delivering on promises to give it more resources. e hiring of a new officer in the position comes more than 18 months aer Stephanie Williams resigned from the chief diversity officer position, the third executive to depart the position in six years. She le the role to have more impact elsewhere, she said at the time, saying the City treated DEI as an extracurricular activity. A subsequent report in September 2022 commissioned by the City found the role was insufficiently supported. e City of Worcester moved to employ an external search firm for the hiring, selecting GovHR, an Indi- ana-based, a woman-owned manage- ment consulting firm with experience recruiting within the DEI field, accord- ing to a press release from the Office of City Manager Eric Batista. e new EODEI will have nine full- time positions, some of which the new executive will be responsible for filling. BoSci to acquire back-pain treatment tech firm Marlborough medical technology giant Boston Scientific has agreed to acquire Relievant Medsystems, which has developed a proprietary technolo- gy to treat lower-back pain. e deal will include an $850-mil- lion cash payment and undisclosed additional contingent payments based on sales performance over the next three years, according to a Sept. 19 press release from Boston Scientific. Relievant is expected to generate sales in excess of $70 million in 2023 and to deliver year-over-year growth in excess of 50% in 2024. B R I E F S W
