wbjournal.com | October 2, 2023 | Worcester Business Journal 3 finding a niche in servicing veteran entre- preneurs, and on page 20, WBJ Correspon- dent Katherine Hamilton in her "Staying mutual" story expands on Fidelity Bank's planned merger. – Brad Kane, editor W hen WBJ Publisher Peter Stanton first heard of our plan for this edition to feature David Jordan's next adventure as interim business dean at Clark University, Stanton simply smirked, "I knew he couldn't stay away." During Stanton's time serving on various nonprofit boards, he had gotten to know Jordan fairly well, understand- ing the man's talent for leadership and passion for affecting change. Jordan, of course, had been the all-star leader of Worcester nonprofit Seven Hills Founda- tion & Affiliates for 28 years, growing it from a $7-million organization in 1995 to the largest human services organization in Central Massachusetts, with 4,700 employees and 235 locations. When Jordan announced his plans to retire this year and take on a much smaller role overseeing the Crotched Mountain School in New Hampshire, it sounded like a peaceful transition for a man who shaped much of the region's nonprofit and business landscape over three decades. roughout his time in Worcester, though, Jordan had another passion over- shadowed by his larger pursuits: teaching social entrepreneurship at Clark Univer- sity. ere, he sought to help students understand they could make a difference in the world and still operate well-run organizations. is is what the Worcester liberal arts school wants him to do as interim dean, only on a much larger scale. As WBJ Staff Writer Isabel Tehan writes in her "at didn't last long" story on page 8, Jordan is seeking to revamp the Clark's School of Management curriculum, so students learn business in a way that ben- efits them and society at large. is comes as Clark is looking to build a state-of-the- art School of Management facility. Elsewhere in this edition, you'll find Staff Writer Timothy Doyle's "Enforcing the win-win" story on page 16 about Worcester's more assertive stance in partnering with developers. On page 10, Tehan looks at how a new regulation has enabled addiction-services providers to reach patients in the field. In the Focus on Banking & Finance, WBJ Correspondent Emily Micucci in her "A military mind- set" story on page 13 looks at lenders Staying a change agent I N T H I S I S S U E Worcester Business Journal (ISSN#1063-6595) is published bi- weekly, 24x per year, including 4 special issues in May, September, October, and December by New England Business Media. 172 Shrewsbury St., Worcester, MA 01604.
