Favorite quote "Real integrity is doing the right thing, knowing that nobody's going to know whether you did it or not." — Oprah Winfrey Influential book: "The Tipping Point," by Mal- colm Gladwell Favorite series: "Schitt's Creek" is one of my all-time favorite feel-good shows. How do you recharge: Morning walks on Hig- gins Beach with my husband, Drake, our kids and our dog. A brewer looks to 'pay it forward' by offering others confidence and support Thomas Madden, 37 Co-founder, Lone Pine Brewing Co. Significant professional accom- plishment: Receiving a Great American Beer Festival gold medal for Cuvee De Funk Barrel-Aged Sour Ale and a World Beer Cup gold medal for Imperial Maple Sun- day Imperial Brown Ale. When we started Lone Pine, we knew we needed to wow audiences in one of America's hotbeds for craft beer, so win- ning an award for true-to-style quality at either of the world's highest-profile compe- titions was a clearly stated goal. Our indus- try is not centered around these types of accolades, but the recognition is a nice acknowledgment of the hard work that our team puts in each day to prioritize quality and creativity, and is a confirmation that we are continuing to move in the direction we set out for. Passion project: Lone Pine has worked hard to establish a network of local chari- ties and nonprofits that are doing impact- ful work on a hyperlocal level. I enjoy cre- ating engaging products and experiences that bring attention and resources to incred- ible local groups like Sebago Clean Waters, the Center for Grieving Children, the Equal- ity Community Center, Winterkids and the Maine Children's Burn Foundation. Audacious goal: Write a book. I have been fortunate to be able to turn a passion into a career and think this would be an effec- tive medium to help others do the same. My parents set an early example for me by offering both experience (they were business owners) and encouragement. The Maine business community does a wonderful job of fostering the development of entrepre- neurs and self-starters and I'm compelled to try and pay it forward by offering others similar confidence and support. Favorite quote: One of my earliest advi- sors told me, "It's not what you have. It's what you're capable to make." That has remained with me through the years. Influential books: "The Old Man and The Sea," by Ernest Hemingway; "New Brewing Lager Beer," by Greg Noonan Favorite TV show: The "No Dig Gardening" YouTube channel by Charles Dowd- ing is my tranquil escapism of the moment. H o w d o y o u recharge: On the soccer pitch ( s h o u t o u t t o Lone Pine FC!), with quick trips to Pine Point Beach with my family, and in my overly ambi- tious garden.
