The Maine Department of Health and Human Services received a total of $287,194 from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's Community Mental Health Services Block Grant program. The University of Maine at Machias, in partnership with the University of Maine at Fort Kent, will offer an adult degree completion program in spring 2024 to encourage adult students to complete their college degrees, with the aid of financial support, scholar- ships and services tailored to a range of learners. A Maine 'U-pick' orchard tops USA Today list Libby & Son U-Picks, in Limerick, ranks No. 1 among the country's favorite apple orchards, according to a USA Today poll completed Sept. 15. In its description of Libby & Son, USA Today gave props to crops including the orchard's Paula Red, McIntosh, Honeycrisp, and Empire apples. "On select days," the award profile also noted, "guests enjoy live music that can be heard throughout the orchard." Libby & Son outranked orchards in Maryland, Georgia, North Carolina, New York, California, Michigan (two honorees), Indiana and Illinois, placing from No. 2 to No. 10 respectively.
