I realize the best chance of acting toward my goal is by continuously following three crit- ical steps to learning: Listen, ask questions, listen. Favorite quote: My favorite quote is one that I wrote recently. It speaks to my intent at this stage in my life — to not accept "because that's the way it has always been" as the concluding statement of any discussion. "Show me what's possible and I'll ask, 'What's next?' Tell me what's impossible and I'll ask, 'Why not?' Explain to me why it's impossible and I'll ask, 'What's next?'" Influential book: I read "Free: From Legalism to Grace," by Jennifer Brewer, last year and found it influential in the ways of validation and liberation. Favorite TV shows or movies: I enjoy genres from true crime to sci-fi, but two shows that I always go back to are "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" and "The Golden Girls." When it comes to movies, the "Jurassic Park" and "Lord of the Rings" series are among my top favorites. How do you recharge: Spending time outside with family and friends, doing anything but most definitely laughing. A banker focused on more than dollars and cents Andrew Cook, 38 Senior vice president and Maine market leader, Mascoma Bank Significant professional accomplish- ment: Being named chair of the 2025 American Heart Associa- tion Heart Walk, as it has a deep personal tie to myself, my wife and our kids. Passion project: My biggest passion project is coaching my two kids in hockey and baseball — Parker, 8, and Charlotte, 5. Audacious goal: To be an industry leader in banking, not just in Maine but at the national level. Favorite quote: "Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win champion- ships." — Michael Jordan Influential book: "Outliers," by Malcolm Gladwell Favorite TV shows or movies: "Suits," "The Godfather," "Mad Men," "Entourage," "Seinfeld" and "The Office" How do you recharge: Spending time with my family and our dog; being out on the golf course or at the lake. Bar Harbor hotelier expands his portfolio and has a passion for books Stephen Coston, 35 Founder and partner, Stay Bar Harbor Hotel Group / Coston, McIsaac & Shea Investment Advisors Significant professional accomplishment: Stay Bar Harbor Hotel Group operates 263 rooms in Bar Harbor with another 63 under construction or renovation. We are also expanding outside of Bar Har- bor, where we have 100-plus rooms in the pipeline. At Coston, McIsaac & Shea we have been able to grow our assets under management from $60 million to $350 million since 2015. Passion project: I enjoy supporting local opportu- nities in reading and education. Last year I spon- sored the nonfiction section of the Jesup Memo- rial Library as part of its expansion project, and I helped Husson University create a space for a student-led marketing agency. Within our hotel group I started a book club for staff members where we meet biweekly and they earn bonuses for participating. I also enjoy support- ing local youth sports. I sponsored the irrigation of our local baseball fields, and I help support a youth basketball program here on Mount Desert Island called No Excuses, which had a big impact on me when I was growing up. Audacious goal: I am working on building a collection of exceptional Old Master paintings to display in our hotels. The goal is to bring world- class works — the type of works you'd normally only find in museums — to our guests here in Bar Harbor. Favorite quote: "How sublime was the way in which Shun and Yu possessed all under Heaven but remained aloof from it." — Confucius Influential book: Given how I feel about read- ing, it's extremely challenging to narrow it down, so here's a handful: "Analects," by Confucius; "The Art of Worldly Wisdom," by Baltasar Gracian; "Anti- fragile," by Nassim Taleb; "The Life & Legend of Jay Gould," by Maury Klein; "Be My Guest," by Conrad Hil- ton; "Made in America," by Sam Walton; "Steve Jobs," by Walter Isaacson; "Finding Alpha," by Eric Falkenstein; and countless others. Favorite movie: "Gladiator" How do you recharge: I listen to music while I drive around the island — in town, through the park, wherever. Lady Shucker creates market for oysters and their shells Libby Davis, 31 Founder and CEO, Lady Shuckers Significant professional accomplishment: Following my dream to start this company. After working in a raw bar as the only female shucker, I fell in love with sustain- able aquaculture's environmental and human health benefits. I sought to diversify the impact on the direct- to-consumer supply chain by sourcing products directly from women to provide the best experiential, raw-bar events with local clients that elevate the Maine brand and harness the power of partnerships to target intersectionality in our community. Travel- ing has allowed us to expand our reach into broader audiences to support our vision to co-create an equitable sea- food future and increase visibility and revenue for underrepresented groups in the sector. Passion project: My longtime passion is building a value- added market for upcy- cled goods made from oyster shells. Oysters take 2-1/2 to three years to grow in Maine and every shell from our events is hand- opened and collected into a pile where it dries on land to cure. In addi- tion to shell recycling for oyster reef restora- tion efforts, making shell earrings, living soils and using them in landscap- ing projects are all of interest for a closed- loop system. Audacious goal: To one day have our own brick-and-mortar space. Maybe it's a restaurant and raw bar, an event barn to host weddings, or maybe it's a facility near our oyster farm.
