64 Giving Guide 2023 Worcester Business Journal www.wbjournal.com FUTURE GOALS 1. To continue promoting awareness of and appreciation for the sacrifices made by veterans and their families for all of us, including the challenges that put them at greater risk for homelessness, substance use, and mental health disorders. 2. To reduce veteran homelessness by providing housing and support programs, prevention services, and advocacy at the federal and state level. 3. To remain on the vanguard of behavioral health treatment by continuing evidence-based, compassionate, innovative, and trauma-informed care in a holistic wellness environment at our Independence Hall treatment facility in Shrewsbury and by expanding residential rehabilitation services addressing co-occurring mental health and substance use disorder in Worcester. 4. To expand and augment new programs and services for underserved and marginalized populations, including aging veterans, women, BIPOC, the LGBTQ+ community, and people with disabilities. 5. To provide critical suicide prevention services to the veteran community, which faces increased risk of suicide due to post-service trauma and represents a major portion of suicide loss. 6. To address new programs and services for returning military service members suffering from issues related to deployment, re-adjustment and reintegration into civilian life, traumatic brain injuries, and post- traumatic stress. Colonel, USAF (Retired) "I was originally drawn to serve on the Board of Veterans Inc. because my dad was a WWII Navy veteran who, like many of his generation, saw service to their country as both a duty and an honor, and the core mission of Veterans Inc. is to provide support not only to my dad's generation of service members, but to all veterans. Additionally, the current expansion of Veterans Inc. services resonates with me because the complexities of care that so many of our veterans have underscores the vital mission of our agency to "be there for our veterans" through housing, employment, and behavioral health care." - Roland W.
