24 Giving Guide 2023 Worcester Business Journal www.wbjournal.com FUTURE GOALS Accessibility and Safety Upgrades to the Facilities – Renovate our sites to improve accessibility (especially walk- in showers) to help enhance resident independence. Maintain Wellness Services –With the expiration of grant funding, the board will seek to ensure that there are resources for our successful Wellness Nursing Services. Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Access, and Belonging (DEIAB) – Improve the culture of the communities to ensure a strong sense of belonging. Strengthen the IT Infrastructure – Enhance the resident experience by increasing the capacity and affordability of technology. Strengthen Internal & External Communications – Undertake communications development internally and externally, including updates to the Colony website with a strong user interface. Transportation for Residents – Undertake further research and planning to see if we can address the transportation gaps for the residents. FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITIES Annual resident/family/neighbor BBQ: Colony would welcome financial donations to offset the cost of the event, an ice cream truck, as well as funds or donations toward a basket raffle. GIVING OPPORTUNITIES We currently have approximately 400 residents but only a part-time activity director. We would love to increase the capacity of our activity department to offer additional opportunities to our residents. Colony III has a mandatory meal program, which serves approximately 73,000 meals per year, prepared fresh daily by our in-house dining services staff and devoted waitstaff. Due to the increase in all costs associated with the dining program (food, supplies, staff ), Colony has had to increase the price to $492 monthly. Residents are low-income and oen have to use their entire discretionary spending and/or SNAP benefits on the program. We currently have a Wellness Nurse on two of the four Colony campuses and would love for all Colony community residents to have access to this extremely worthwhile service. Sometimes a new resident needs basic supplies, and sometimes a new or current resident doesn't have enough money to purchase a larger item such as a mattress or dresser. Transportation services for residents is an ongoing topic and need. As part of our strategic planning effort, we know that any arrangement we make will cost money. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES Volunteers are welcome to participate or run ongoing monthly programs such as book groups, chorus groups, current event discussions, slideshows of international travel. As part of expanding the capacity of our activities department, we would seek to fund a volunteer coordinator.
