22 Giving Guide 2023 Worcester Business Journal www.wbjournal.com FUTURE GOALS 1. Collaborate with Worcester County communities to create a homeless response within each city and town. 2. Expand shelter and affordable permanent housing options for families in Worcester 3. Continue working on partnerships with similar organizations to ensure our families get access to a variety of resources. 4. Expand our relationships with local colleges, businesses, and faith-based communities to grow our furniture donation program, Donations Clearinghouse (DCH). 5. Strengthen our federal, state, and local advocacy efforts. 6. Enhance our data capacity to monitor trends and ensure our findings can be readily used by state, federal, and local agencies to inform policies at each level. 7. Expand and strengthen our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion work both internally and externally. FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITIES e Annual WALK for the Homeless, held on the third Sunday in May, benefits programs of Central Massachusetts Housing Alliance, Friendly House, and In the Hour of Need Family Shelter (a program of Friendly House). e WALK Beneficiaries' programs provide direct assistance to Worcester County's most impoverished residents, preventing homelessness and providing direct services to those experiencing homelessness. It is through these programs that we can strengthen the local community and stabilize our most vulnerable citizens. In the fall we also host our annual giving campaign. Funds raised through our annual appeal help us support our families to avoid homelessness and transition from shelter support to permanent housing. GIVING OPPORTUNITIES ere are several ways in which people can support CMHA's work. Donors can support our programs through grants, matching gis, and major gis. Donations Clearinghouse, our furniture donation program, accepts gently used furniture that is given to families who are moving from shelters to permanent housing. Furthermore, we hold an annual WALK for the Homeless in which donations can be made to support the housing programs of the CMHA, Friendly House, and In the Hour of Need Family Shelter. Each fall and winter, the CMHA collaborates with community partners and Worcester County schools to collect donations for our most vulnerable families. Previously, people have donated furniture, diapers, wipes, and toiletry items. To allow children to pick out their own items, donors oen provide gi cards. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES Central Mass Housing Alliance has volunteer opportunities throughout the year. Our two largest opportunities are our annual WALK for the Homeless, and our Youth Advocacy Program called Youth Advocating to End Homelessness. To support the WALK, people can create a team, donate, or volunteer. Volunteers at the WALK usually volunteer for one day. Our youth program meets monthly to plan awareness campaigns, donation drives, and fundraising challenges. Central Massachuse‹s Housing Alliance Inc. Leah M. A few years later, I met with the team and learned more about all the impactful work that CMHA does to not only house those impacted by homelessness, but also to prevent homelessness and engage in advocacy efforts at the local, state, and national level. Over the years, I have heard numerous former clients share stories of how they were impacted by homelessness and through their determination and the dedication of CMHA staff were able to move back into safe affordable housing." – Sam Bitar, Board President 6 Institute Rd.
