Claude is the founder and executive director of ProsperityME: The Center for Financial Education, a refugee-led nonprofit that empowers members of refugee and immigrant communities to build financial stability, careers, businesses, and wealth. Rwaganje was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, became a refugee in Central Africa in the early 1990s and chose Maine as his home more than 20 years ago. Beyond the work of financial literacy, he has been a leader in providing scholarship support, housing and workforce integration at a time that Maine needs to fill jobs in every sector of the economy. In addition to service on the Westbrook City Council and the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston's Community Development Advisory Council (CDAC), Claude's counsel is sought and welcomed throughout Maine. For all those accomplishments and his commitment to the workforce, he is the ideal recipient for this year's award.
