"You see what's happening in the industry, so any way we can save money, we're doing it," said Ellen Rosenfeld, one of three siblings who own CommCan. June 6 was the first day med- ical license sales were available in Rehoboth. The Southborough location at 255 Turnpike Road officially closed on June 7, said Rosenfeld. The Southborough location closure by the independent- ly-owned CommCan came in the same week Florida-based multi-state operator Trulieve said it was withdrawing from the Massachusetts market and clos- ing dispensaries in Worcester, Framingham, and Northampton. The Southborough dispensary was CommCan's only location strictly selling to customers with medical licenses. The company is moving its medical license sales from that location to its operations in Rehoboth at 150 Barney Ave. CommCan operates another medical and recreation- al dispensary in Millis. It plans to open an additional location in Mansfield in 2024, according to the CommCan website. The Southborough location was not closed due to an inabil- ity to sell recreational marijuana there, said Rosenfeld. "That location would not have supported it," said Rosenfeld, citing the location's small size and lack of parking. The decision to close was a business decision to consolidate operations, said Rosenfeld. CommCan closes Southborough marijuana dispensary Jon, Ellen and Marc Rosenfeld
