wbjournal.com | February 20, 2023 | Worcester Business Journal 5 Southeast Asian Coalition names new leader, moves out of Denholm Building e newly relocated Worcester nonprofit Southeast Asian Coalition of Central Massachusetts has named Tuyet Tran as its new executive director. Tran succeeds Anh Vu Sawyer, who was executive director at SEACMA for 10 years. Sawyer stepped down in September from leading the organization, which is dedicated to bettering the lives of Southeast Asian immigrants, refugees, and long-time residents in Central Massachusetts. Tran has lived in Worcester since 2000 and has been involved with SEACMA since its founding. Tran was board president and acting director at the coalition from 2002 to 2006. She officially assumed the role as executive director on Feb. 6, according to Tracy Nguyen, SEACMA internal deputy executive director. Tran's ascension into SEACMA's leadership role coincides with the nonprofit's move out of the Denholm Building on Main Street in Worcester into new offices on Portland Street. UMass Chan vice provost dies unexpectedly Dr. Michael Green, vice provost for strategic research initiatives, and professor and chair of molecular, cell and cancer biology at UMass Chan Medical School in Worcester, has died. Green was a critical member of UMass Chan's growth and research teams, and served as director of the UMass Cancer Center and as co- director of the Li Weibo Institute for Rare Diseases Research, according to a Feb. 13 notice from UMass Chan. Green's professional work centered on gene expression and regulation. Beyond the medical school, he served in 2016 as a scientific co-founder of Fulcrum erapeutics, a clinical-stage Cambridge biopharmaceutical company focused on gene-based diseases. "is is a huge loss -- for his wife Maria, for @UMassChan, for me, for science," said his brother, Dr. Eric Green, director of the National Institutes of Health National Human Genome Research Institute, in a tweet. Michael Green died suddenly at age 69, according to the tweet.
